Lumia Black update, which was set to bring new apps, features and enhancements to Nokia Lumia devices, is seeding worldwide now. Starting with Lumia 925 and 1020, the update will be hitting Lumia 920, 820, 720, 625, 620 and 520 in stages.
The feature list of Lumia Black update is not as long as Lumia Amber, yet it brings worthy features and long awaited fixes to Nokia Lumia handsets. New features include App Folder, Nokia Glance Screen 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0 LE support, Nokia Refocus App, Nokia Beamer, Nokia Storyteller App, updated Nokia Camera App and Improved imaging algorithms.
App folder lets you organize your apps and settings in a folder so it becomes easy to put apps of same kind together. The folder can be set as a tile on start screen. Nokia Glance Screen 2.0 brings your important notifications to lock-screen, which is always visible, so you don’t need to unlock your phone to checkout notifications. Nokia Refocus will be available to devices with at least 1GB of RAM. The app lets you refocus an image on other focus areas.
Nokia Beamer lets you share anything you like to any HTML5 enabled screen just by scanning a QR code. Nokia Beamer will be available on Lumia phones with 1GB or more RAM. Nokia Storyteller can arrange your photos by date and by place, making it easy to tell a story behind the pictures. Earlier the app was only available to Lumia PureView smartphones. Nokia Camera has also been updated to bring raw DNG support on Lumia 1020, which is an unprocessed, untouched raw format of an image as it gets captured by the camera.
The Lumia Black update also brings latest and improved imaging algorithms, which improves image quality, especially in Lumia 1020. The algorithm will reduce the noise and make them look more natural with real-life colors. Lumia Black also brings Microsoft’s enhancements to Lumia devices, which include safe driving mode to turn off distractions while driving and customised ringtones for contacts.
